Case Studies

CPN Media Solutions has a long history of delighting clients and delivering results. We’ve worked with thousands of brands, ranging from small local companies to the largest international corporations. Whether you need reliable delivery of a complicated buy across hundreds of media properties, complex multimedia digital buys, small-dollar buys (press releases, classified and email marketing) or creative activations that get attention, we can deliver. Here are a few case studies of solutions our team has produced that go well beyond what you might expect from a standard marketing agency.

Coca-Cola Podcasts

When Coca-Cola decided to branch out beyond its use of musical mega-celebrities, it turned to the team led by CEO Tim Regan-Porter (then at Paste Media Group) for its Coca-Cola Global Independent Music Initiative. The team developed and produced two podcasts per week covering 44 artists across 4 global regions. The team managed hosts, guests, scripts, podcast production, delivery to IBM, articles for Coca-Cola’s website,  and global licensing for music and merchandise rights.

Obamicon

Obamicon

When Paste wanted to illustrate its technical and social- media marketing prowess, Regan-Porter conceived of Obamicon, which let a user upload a photo or use their webcam, add a caption and create a profile photo in the style of Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” image.

Tim led a two-person team to create Obamicon in a period of 6 weeks. It became an immediate viral phenomenon and transformed the company.

  • 1M uniques in 1st month (3x Paste’s 2008 avg)
  • 22% activations, with 2M Obamicons
  • 74K Facebook app users, 500K likes
  • Over $200K in merchandise
  • Major media coverage, licensing for film & TV
  • Lasting bump in web traffic to Paste
  • Flown to private meeting with Intel CMO; Intel became new advertiser
  • Private labeled for 6 clients, including NBA & NHL teams, Universal Music, and two national charities

Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt

To further enhance Paste’s reputation for marketing and technical innovation with advertisers and convey to readers the depth of its site, Regan-Porter led a team to develop an interactive web-based game. Supported by an editorial site takeover, the game allowed users to invoke the game and go on a journey that required searching the site, completing quests, casting spells and collecting points. It used innovative browser effects, including one of the first examples of in-browser Augmented Reality. Gamification mechanics included quests with challenges, random reward schedules, extended roll-out and time pressure, points, leaderboard/competition, prizes, levels/progression, social network integration, narrative, curiosity, easter eggs and bonuses. The results:

  • 10x engagement lift

  • For top 40% of players, time on site was measured in hours.

  • Microsoft’s agency saw game and commissioned two different scavenger hunt projects as XBox promotions and a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. (The Beatles XBox prize was a rare limited-edition console, whose first copy sold on eBay for $17,300.)

Seal of Colorado

State of Colorado

To ensure that voters have all of the information they need, the Colorado constitution requires the state to publish the full text of proposed constitutional amendments in the largest circulation legal publication of every county of the state, and the state runs this text in English and Spanish in some counties. Every year, the Legislative Council Staff (LCS) must coordinate with newspapers in all 56 counties, each with different sizes and specs. Someone must get updated Statements of Ownership with circulation numbers, determine which newspapers are eligible, layout many pages of legal copy for all of these formats, proof the copy, ensure that all newspapers run the amendments on the specified dates and process payments upon completion. And due to the legal implications, everything must be executed flawlessly. Every word, punctuation mark and font-size must be correct. It’s a gargantuan undertaking, even for state government. For years, LCS has trusted CPN to simplify their life and carry out these responsibilities with 100% fidelity. LCS simply supplies the final text of proposed amendments, and we take care of the rest, from artwork and sizing to billing. Even for this complex and legally fraught work, it becomes “one call, one bill” for LCS, saving them time and providing peace of mind.
